About Us

The Huichol and Pesticides Project was started in 1982 (history) to distribute information about the effects of pesticide use in agriculture. In advocating for the Human Rights of those affected by pesticide use and in particular Mexico's Huichol migrant workers -- H&P has undertaken the following actions and activities:

  • Production - Written, Audio and Audio Visual materials.
  • Distribution - Main stream and community-based media.
  • Lobbying and Campaigning - For the implementation of laws regarding, and against, pesticide use.
  • Community - Informing and helping affected indigenous communities become aware of the risks and dangers of pesticides.
  • Activism - Collaborating with these communities against the use of pesticides in their homeland.

We believe pesticide use concerns everyone. We buy and eat produce grown with pesticide and for those working in agriculture, from small farms to multinational agribusiness, the concern is even greater.

In order to distribute information about pesticide use to the largest possible audience we have developed an extensive collection of resources in a variety of mediums:

These materials have been translated into the following 12 indigenous Mexican languages:
Huichol (Wixárika)
Cora (Nayari)
Tepehuano (O'dam ñi'ok)
P,urhepecha (Purhépecha)
Nauatl (Náhuatl)
Zapotec of the Sierra (Xtilla bene xhon)
Zapotec of the Isthmus (Diidxazá)
Mixtec (Tuhum saahan ndavi ñuum skuíia,a)
Triki de Copala (Xna,anj nu,)
Peninsular Mayan (Maaya ta,an)
